Image Hosted by ImageShack.usEvery rapper, whether signed or unsigned, dreams of making a cool mil. Now thanks to an exciting new event, their dreams are about to become reality. The World Series of Hip Hop isn’t your average rap battle. The historic event, which runs from August 5 through August 9 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, offers rappers from all over the world a shot at world supremacy, a million dollar cash prize and certification from some of the greatest MC’s to ever grip a microphone.”This is an opportunity of a life time,” says official spokeswoman Roxanne Shante. “This is like a hip-hop lottery, you have to be in it to win it. I can’t wait to see some unknown rapper, really shame some industry rapper. Most people get in the industry to make a million dollars. But very few make one dollar. Here’s a chance for them to make $1,000,000.00 in one night!”The million-dollar prize goes to the Heavyweight division champ, for MCs over 25 years old. Even the three Heavyweight runner-ups will collect at least $100,000 in prize money.”An unknown rapper can become an overnight millionaire in the Heavyweight category,” says Furqaan Clover, the event’s organizer. Even known rappers can use that kind of money. “I’ve spoken to established artists who are signed. They have told me that $1 million is enough to go into battle. They feel it’s like taking candy from a baby, but the competition is going to be stiff.” Plus, he adds, “established artists can enter but they have so much to lose.”With so much prize money in play, the judging will be handled by some of the greatest MCs all of all time. And while organizers aren’t quite ready to make a statement about specific superstar judges, Shante says, “we want to make sure that people looked at the judges and feel they should enter because a legend will be judging them.” As fans wait for an official announcement, the tension builds. The tournament uses a bracket system, similar to the Final Four. The competition lasts four days long. The first two days feature 8-10 hours of competition. With 200 ciphers taking place throughout the hall, only the strong will survive the one-time elimination. “It will be like the World Series of poker with lots of little matches,” Shante explains. The World Series of Hip-Hop also features a dance category, with a well-known rapper/dancer in negotiations to host. There are three categories: dance troupe, which is six or more dancers and features $500,000 in prize money; squad, which is five or less dancers competing for $250,000; and Individual breakdancing, where soloists battle for $250,000.Confirmed judges for the World Series of Hip-Hop are:Kool Herc ,DJ Red Alert,Grandmaster Melle Mel,Kurtis Blow,Kool Moe Dee,Big Daddy Kane,MC Lyte,Roxanne Shante,Just Ice,Ultramagnetic MCs,Superlover Cee & Casanova Rud,Dana Dane.
