Saigon said lil Wayne sucks

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Arriving from a recent show in China, Saigon came on to DJ Kay Slay’s Shade 45 radio show to discuss several issues including current music interests,Lil Wayne and southern rap. After announcing, “My shit is 10 times better than all that,” when referring to up-and-coming albums from a handful of rappers (namely Lil Wayne)Saigon said Lil Wayne sucked!!! haha we agree!!!Sure to make some rap listeners turn the other cheek, the discussion turned a bit questionable as Saigon commented on the south’s presence in the Hip Hop community. “It’s funny though, someone was like ‘you trying to sound like a south nigga.’ I’m like, ain’t they biting by just rapping period? How you gonna say I’m biting when ya’ll nigga’s is rapping? This is us, what the fuck are y’all rapping for? They forgot about that, Slay.”

Saigon dropped from atlantic records

Saigon hip hop spy

It seemed to be the album that would never see the light of day. Saigon and Atlantic Records have been caught up in a never ending soap opera that found Saigon going as far as saying “I Quit!” in an attempt to force Atlantic’s hand to do something.
Finally, something has been done and Saigon is no longer a part of Atlantic.”I am NO LONGER ON ATLANTIC RECORDS, thank you God,” Sai says via his Myspace blog. “I took legal action and got my manager Chris, my lawyer Theo, my homies Gee Roberson and Just Blaze and we got the fuck up out of there… No, I didn’t get dropped so you haters don’t get excited, I fought these people very very hard to leave.”

In his blog, Saigon cites what he calls “the three strikes” that got him to this point.”Atlantic Records felt I needed a party song, or a sexual song or something like the other artist they have up there,” he says of “Pain In My Life” not getting pushed hard as his single. “On one side of the token they’re telling me they need to market me to the youth yet they want me to use adult content.. This didn’t make sense to me. They wanted me to tell 12 and 13 year old kids that its cool to be strippers and gangbangers.” He also blames Atlantic for burying the buzz worthy “Come On Baby” and not giving him the proper funding for a video for either song. The final strike, however, was when Just Blaze nailed down Jay-Z for the “Come On Baby” remix and Atlantic dropped the ball again. Saigon says that this is what forced him to take legal action to leave the label.
Just Blaze also chimed in on the situation from his blog.
“We have been quietly working to get released from Atlantic. Sometimes you need to do things without talking about them. And get what you want. We finally got that…With 100% ownership of the masters,” Blaze states. He also makes mention that leaving the label and owning all the masters is a rarity. “Thank you Atlantic for recognizing the situation for what it really was and doing the right thing,” he continues. “There are already new situation(s) in the works.” We at Hiphopspy once again say what the hell do these rappers think when they sign the slave deal contracts that they are going to get it there way, do they think there is a pot of gold at the labels? Nothing is going to ever change it only gets worse until all the labels fold. Saigon needs to stay independent if he signs to another label then he truly is a dumbass.

How will hiphop survive?

For Hip hop to survive the next era, the independent market must become a valid, bankable option for all artists, not just those who are local and lesser known. With major record labels like Def Jam and Interscope seeing less than stellar returns on their projects, more and more artists are being put on the back burner. These major labels will probaly go bankrupt very soon or restructure to ringtone releases only. Artists like the Lox, Beanie Siegel, Freeway, Wu Tang Clan and all of its members, G-Unit and all of its members, anyone who has been foolhardy enough to sign to Bad Boy, and a host of others are being dropped and/or traded between labels like rookie NBA picks. There is little to no stability in the industry. The best bet for artists, whether known or unknown, is to build local support from their area of origin, and then fly out on their own independently. There is no guarantee for artists on major labels, which are not in the business of making careers, as much as they are for making hit records. Recently, the growing success of individuals who choose to go independent is starting to become a temptation for artists starving in the majors. The independent route isn’t a new road. Many artists such as 50 Cent and Soulja Boy have taken to handling their own business to create a buzz. But now, what individuals would do to get the attention of major labels, they may have to do as a final result. Ice Cube for example, independently released his album “Laugh Now, Cry Later” to incredible sells, moving approximately 144,000 copies in its first week.Okay, Papoose is a bust, Saigon is apparently throwing a temper tantrum, ring tone rap is dying down, southern rap and all of its sub genres are losing steam; there is no one else. If you are a fan then support independent artists do not buy 1 single cd from a major label. Find a indie artist and support him. Play his music and share it with your friends. Music sharing and free music is a reality that will not go away. The major labels realized this to late, the major labels are finished. Independent Hip Hop is the future.
