Kanye West has been charged with assault, theft and vandalism over an incident with TMZ reporters last September at LAX.

If convicted, the Kanye faces up to 30 months in prison.

West and his manager Don Crawley were arrested on September 11 at Los Angeles’ LAX airport after the pair “confronted and engaged in an altercation with two photographers,” the LA attorney’s office said in a statement.

Crawley, 33, was also charged on two counts of battery, theft and vandalism, and faces a possible five years in prison.

The incident was widely seen on the internet after the celebrity gossip site TMZ filmed West breaking the flash of a photographer’s camera inside a terminal, and his manager breaking the camera itself and accosting TMZ’s videographer.

The incident took place in September when paparazzi tried to snap West boarding an early flight.

He was arrested as he tried to board the plane.

Kanye West said South Park put him in Check And murders him

South Park” may have accomplished the impossible – getting Kanye West to check his ego. The Comedy Central show skewered the famously self-important rapper on its show Wednesday night, painting him as a narcissistic figure so out of touch with reality he couldn’t even take a (very politically incorrect) joke.

West’s love of himself and his work has been almost as integral to his image as his music: Just last year, he told The Associated Press that he was the “voice of this generation.” Also recently, he was quoted as saying his greatest regret was not being able to see himself perform live.

Yet, on his blog Thursday, West appeared chastened, and ready to turn over a new leaf.

In typical all-caps mode, he wrote: “SOUTH PARK MURDERED ME LAST NIGHT AND IT’S PRETTY FUNNY. IT HURTS MY FEELINGS BUT WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM SOUTH PARK! I ACTUALLY HAVE BEEN WORKING ON MY EGO THOUGH. HAVING THE CRAZY EGO IS PLAYED OUT IN MY LIFE AND CAREER.”

West said that he started stroking his ego long ago to build up his self esteem – but he now realizes he needs to “GET PAST MYSELF.”

In the self-reflective post, he said that people won’t take him seriously if he keeps it up (perhaps referring to his well-documented meltdowns at awards shows when he didn’t win what he expected).

“I JUST WANT TO BE A DOPER PERSON WHICH STARTS WITH ME NOT ALWAYS TELLING PEOPLE HOW DOPE I THINK I AM,” he said.

And perhaps to show that he’s really serious about making that change, he provided a link to one of the most biting moments from the “South Park” show, and thanked the writers as well.

Kanye West and Talib Kweli Featured on true to the game

Kanye West, GLC, Talib Kweli and others have lent their talents to a new Hip Hop related project dedicated to raising funds for nonprofit and historic causes.

Stadium Entertainment, in conjunction with EMI have teamed up to release True To The Game, Volume 1. Proceeds from the sales of the album will benefit the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.

West and GLC forge the way for the album with its leadoff single, “Big Screen.”

The current economic crisis prompted Stadium co-founders Camille Barbone and Gary Katz to get involved to ensure that various charitable organizations continue to operate.

“We are all pleased about the opportunity to work in tandem with EMI which will give our projects a broad audience and propel Stadium forward in its mission to create viable revenue streams and enhance the fundraising efforts of carefully selected philanthropic organizations. Today’s economic crisis has created a drastic decline in contributions for so many charities who are suffering around the world. We understand that it’s important to help worthy non-profit organizations to support their goals to improve the lives of those in need,” the pair said.

Touring is where the Money is

If anyone had any doubt that touring is where the money is in the music business, a quick look at the top Moneymakers for 2008 should hammer the point home. Regardless of genre, retail sales or radio play, each of the 20 acts on Billboard’s Moneymakers list toured in 2008. (Taylor Swift mostly opened for Brad Paisley but doesn’t get credit for that revenue). For almost all of them, touring generated the most revenue. And in a year when recorded-music sales declined yet again, many earned more at the box office than ever before.
1. Madonna: $242,176,466
2. Bon Jovi: $157,177,766
3. Bruce Springsteen: $156,327,964
4. The Police: $109,976,894
5. Celine Dion: $99,171,237
6. Kenny Chesney: $90,823,990
7. Neil Diamond: $82,174,000
8. Rascall Flatts: $63,522,160
9. Jonas Brothers: $62,638,814
10. Coldplay: $62,175,555
11. The Eagles: $61,132,213
12. Lil Wayne: $57,441,334
13. AC/DC: $56,505,296
14. Michael Buble: $50,257,364
15. Miley Cyrus: $48,920,806
16. Taylor Swift: $45,588,730

18. Billy Joel: $44,581,010
19. Mary J. Blige: $43,472,850
20. Kanye West: $42,552,402

The top five Moneymakers are also the five acts that earned the most on tour, and in the same order, according to Billboard Boxscore. Eight of the top 10 Moneymakers are in the Boxscore top 10. Source: Billboard.
