Has Hip Hop about ran its course ?
The world of hip hop has morphed into something I don’t even recognize anymore. As I go listen to my daily blend of so called hip hop tracks that are submitted to me 7 days a week I have noticed that the tracks get worse and worse day after day. The few hip hop artists that used to put it down are so lazy they dont release anything but half ass collab tracks non stop anymore. The sellouts are everywhere from the youngmoney gay hip hop artists that get most of the commercial press, to the big name lame blogs that suck off the major labels and never promote any indie artists. Hip hop has started accepting manipulated record sells that claim they sold 1 million records in a week by buying them all back , to the wack concerts that barely fill up half the venue. It is a very disgusting time in hip hop these days.
I sometimes find myself listening to old school r&b and funk bands where artists used to sing and have real bands. Today we have wack rappers wearing spandex pants looking like faggots check the pic above, and we call them the best we have to offer in hip hop. I don’t see any big name blogs or websites calling these lames out ever because they are scared that they will get their get in the concert free pass pulled or get smacked up by the bodyguards of one of these lollipop rappers.
I don’t see or hear much from the indies anymore as well. It seems like even the indie artists are too lazy to hustle and promote their names to the level they need to. Hip hop is also full of so many hustles now that it has turned into a wwe sideshow, there are the never ending wack showcases that are meaningless, to the wack awards shows that are meaningless, to the major labels that have ruined hip hop by making it a priority to promote the trash artists and the trash music. I feel like the best days of hip hop are definitely behind us and hip hop might just die if it continues to go down the lame street we are headed.

ny niggaz is ruining hip hop wit the same rappers in the game foreva.
it is time for london to take over hip hop
the real hip hop is in the south in the small towns but it will never reach the mainstream because of the major labels blocking all the real talent
i feel the same way. it is rare that i ever hear a hip hop track that is hitting hard anymore
we need sum new blood in the mainstream- and radio needs to play indie music im sick of hearing these auto tune bullshit songs
yall know dante lavon is taking hiphop to another level you got to hear dante lavon real talk mixtape to get what im saying
I feel like a lot of new yorkers are angry that Lil Wayne has outsold Watch the Throne….I’m from Cali and a lot of people love Carter 4…whereas although Watch The Throne is dope…..its not playing in every car until I came to new york..I went to Best Buy and bought Carter 4..lil Wayne excites people..more of a younger crowd…n truth be told…Nicki outsold Watch The Throne…love it or Hate it…Nicki also outsold Kanye West last albums..these are facts…not conjecture…go buy 2 and 3 copies of Watch the Throne if u would like to see it win…but I bet most of u bootlegged…When Wayne outsold those 2 on itunes…those numbers can’t be manipulated…n his shit was leaked…aNd I ..have been to a Lil Wayne concert..u can’t deny he’s a great performer..that’s how he opened up his fanbase..I was there stadium full…fans of all races…Jay is a beter lyricist..But a boring performer.for better or worse..Wayne is a kickass performer..n remember..this is a Black-owned company…..instead of envy.support your favorite artist
Ok first of… Fuck fade… All he does is talk shit bout wayne… Wen he knows noone can fuk wit him lyricly… He should be talkin bout wak ass old jay z cuz he fukin up hip up nd makin it borin … He a legend but he is 42 years old… STOP HATON ON WAYNE CUZ.HE CREATIVE! FUCK

he said lil wayne was lyrical hahahahaha dat is sum funny ass shit. and for the bitch that said lil wayne outsold somebody. lil wayne didnt sell nuthing u dumb azz hoe and nikki minaj sound like a nursery rhyme rapper evething is fake bout dat hoe
One more thing…new york hated on tupac…..yep..I was around….the Source giving mediocre reviews to all Pac’s albums..these are facts..again..not conjecure…but though I love Biggie…Pac is the most unforgettable rap artist of all time
I couldn’t believe how some so called critics have praised “watch the throne”. that release was a huge disapoitment and in my opinion made a mockery of Otis Redding,
I mean they stripped all the soul that Otis injected into the original version. Looks like they will still “watching” the throne.
One of the best rappers out there is Scarface, but the brother really doesn’t know music and his morals and approach to doing business makes the brother look like an ignorant buffoon. (= broke)
After being rapped by Rap-A-Lot for all these years may have something to do with it.
However Nicki sounded…she’s outselling you angry New York artists….at least the commentary was well-written even if it was filled with conjecture…I’m glad Lil Wayne got you same-sounding East Coast artists rambling for an excuse to dispute sales…popularity..oh and Lil Wayne has 11 singles on Billboard..guess Baby did that too…FOH….Me…I’m an artist as well…I don’t sit around and hate on another Black artist..I get out there n work on my craft and a masterplan for success…Bottom line….the fans have spoken for Lil Wayne….look in the mirror and hate yourself for being angry.I never comment but I’m tired of te hate…n u calling me a bitch or hoe doesn’t change the facts…YMCMB….
Work Hard, Grind Harder you haters suck a hard one YMCMB forever..
That gay radio rap that yall like and REAL HIPHOP are two different things. REAL HIPHOP will never die. That Gay ass autotune radio rap is dead already. As long as Danny Brown, Sean Price, Torae, Skyzoo and the rest of the MC’s who get no support keep spitting, HIPHOP will remain alive and well. Tupac was overated and If your a Lil Gayne fan kill yourself, #teamjeggins that is all.
Young Money is the wackest group of rappers ever assembled. U dickeaters only like them because they’re a bunch of baby waynes. I’m pretty sure only gay men are lil wayne fans Oh yeah not only has wayne ruined rap he’s now tryin to ruin Skateboarding. If your favorite rappers name starts with Lil kill your self immediately, #teamjeggings that is all.
Who r u 2 say tupac is overrated…for better or worse….he had a message..didn’t brag about his riches…and his music stood the test of time…you New York rappers are underrated so u r angry and hate anyone Black who isn’t from Ny and is more successful but u will suck Eminem’s Balls cuz he’s White and u will accept that as being the best rappers…you guys are the same rappers wh dissed Jay Z cuz he had success that most will never see….I got your number..lmao
As a Wayne fan I was prepared to HATE this article BUT DAMMIT MAN u ain’t wrong. All I have to say is thank god KRIT was here to bring a lil’ summin real back. It’s still there, just overshadowed by the commercial machine.
Everything you have said is true about the hip hop game but why is it that when you come across a hot independent artist, you want to charge them to be on your mixtapes? What happened to all of the love and support for the starving artist? It would seem that you would gain more by exposing that next big thing and possibly even make history if you really had that keen authentic hip hop ear…im just saying, its time to take it “Back To The Grungy”. Log on to engrmusic.com and take a listen for yourself, i challenge you to put your ears to the test, if you like what you hear, lets do some business, if you dont like what you hear, feel to expose your true and honest feelings on this blog.
“The Afterlife Initiation” is on the way.
Watch how I tell y’all the stories of Heaven on earth.
First, calling rappers names does not equate to opinion- just insult. Now, YES- we get thousands of bull shit emails of bull shit music every day. Hip Hop is not dead- that saying is. Check Pete Rock, 9th Wonder, the young emcee crews outta Cali & Pittsburgh, Em & Royce, Jay & Ye, Slaine & a slew of others across the globe dropping that heat we used to bop our heads to. Wayne is 50/50 with me. Either he blows when one of his ideas goes really bad, or sometimes he actually rides a beat to perfection. Him being GAY or not, is irrelevant. @Lisa- You’re buggin on NY just plain hating. I could care less about sales- all I care is about content. Sales never determined an album’s greatness to me. You are right about the cheap mfers in NY bootlegging shit. Main reason why emcees[Kool G Rap] of the 90s didn’t go platinum like thay should have- our bad! I rocked 2Pac’s joints & anyone else who drops a HEATER for the streets or club! RIP- Pac was a cool dude- I met him 3 different occasions. @Houston- go sit down & enjoy an album that has great production & lyrics, buddy. “A New Day” with RZA is a classic! Exactly how were they supposed to keep Otis’ spirit alive?, when you are sampling his voice just to add flavor. To the rest of ya who think we need new artists- DON”T BE LAZY!! The RADIO will never play it for you- they are CONSUMED with ruining HIP HOP- haven’t you heard! They are dropping tracks everyday- if you LOVE Hip Hop- you gotta go digging thru the shit- its there. Check the net, blogs & such. Don’t jump on bandwagons- really check it out. Here’s a hint- the name of the artist is usually a good clue of what to expect. My real Hip Hop heads will know what I’m talking about. Peace- Hip Hop is alive & well!
time for a new underground revolution? i think you might be looking in the wrong places to. when has the mainstream ever spoken to the true heart of hiphop?!?!
Deadly accurate answer. You’ve hit the blulsyee!
