Dollas family plans funeral for May 23
Los Angeles Police said late Tuesday the killer of Atlanta rapper Dolla acted alone, though they wouldn’t confirm whether Monday’s shooting stemmed from a recent brawl at an Atlanta strip club.
Snellville resident Aubrey Louis Berry, 23, is being held on $1 million bail, charged with murdering Dolla, born Roderick Anthony Burton II, outside the Beverly Center Mall in West Hollywood, Calif., Monday afternoon.
The Los Angeles Times, citing anonymous police sources, reports the shooting may have stemmed from a fightl at Platinum 21 Adult Entertainment on Piedmont Road in Atlanta.
Joseph Green, who works at the club, said late Tuesday that an LAPD detective interviewed another Platinum 21 employee, “Bull” Shaw, earlier Tuesday regarding a fight at the club. Shaw could not be reached for comment.
“I know there wasn’t [a fight] May 13,” Green said, disputing the Times report placing Dolla and Berry at the club that night. “But there may have been one the week before.”
Green said he did not know either Burton or Berry, and a Los Angeles Police spokeswoman would neither confirm nor deny the interview with Shaw took place.
The rapper’s family is also looking for answers.
“As far as we know [Dolla] had no idea it was coming,” said Burton’s stepfather, George Viera. He’s been married to Dolla’s mother, Dawnee Robinson Viera, for three years.
The rapper’s family, including sisters Divinity Burton, 22, and Sadenicole Burton, 20, gathered at the Viera’s southwest Atlanta home Tuesday to plan Dolla’s funeral, scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Murray Brothers Funeral Home. A memorial service, also at Murray Brothers, will be held at 6 p.m., Friday, Viera said.
They learned of Burton’s shooting from his longtime girlfriend, Crystal Jackson, a Los Angeles native and student at Clark Atlanta University. Dolla was planning a birthday party for Jackson, whom he had dated for at least three years, Viera said.
“They [Dolla, Atlanta rapper D. J. Shabbazz and cousin Will Robinson, stage name Scrapp DeLeon] had just come out of P.F. Chang’s,” Viera said. “They heard gunfire and started running.”
Burton was shot in the back, his stepfather said: “The bullet pierced his heart.”
Dolla was like a son, Viera said, and nothing like the stereotype often attached to rappers. “It was a character he played,” he said. “To us he was just Roddy. When he was home, you couldn’t pry him away. Loved to play with his nieces and nephews, loved to play on the Wii.”
He was nearing completion of his first album, “Another Day, Another Dolla’,” Viera said, but had other plans far outside show business.
“He wanted to go to theology school,” he said. “He was very interested in religion. People think rapper, they think hard, but he wasn’t that way.”

ok… this thread was posted in various places and the author admitted that the information was obtained by a cousin that happens to be a CO at the jail where Berry is being held. not quite sure how that classifies him as knowing all the facts or since when hearing 3rd or 4th party information(even from yo cousin) became qualified at being 110% true. NOW… as a witness to the incident that happened in Atlanta at Platinum 21(that part is true), DOLLA’s entourage was moving through the spot and a man, later identified as Berry, bumped a girl(walking with the entourage). the girl turns and says something to berry, berry gets back at her, they’re having words(some real foul), dudes turn to address the issue telling dude not to be talking to the female that way, berry then tells the dude “fuck you, nigga… what you gone do” and some mo shyt. dude(not Dolla) bust dude(berry) in the grill. dude ended up on the ground getting stomped out. that’s it. Dolla wasn’t trying to rob dude like folks is sayin’. Dolla wasn’t trying to get at the same girl dude was talkin’ to.
don’t know what happened at the airport. don’t know what happened in the valet area at the mall.
innocent until proven guilty, but i don’t see shooting someone in the back as self defense. cops can’t even get away wit that shyt. i also can’t see dude being the only person getting shots off or makin it to the car if the spot was crawling wit Crips as he claims. just sayin’.

Its time to tell the truth about the Rapper Dolla and Aubrey Berry. Please do not question how I know this information, you can choose to withhold this information or be an outlet for this source. Aubrey Berry graduated from Clark Atlanta University last year, he has a perfect credit score, and absolutely no Pryor convictions.
On May 13th Aubrey Berry went to Platinum 21 ( a strip club in atlanta ) to celebrate his freind coming to Atlanta for the first time. Dolla was with his immediate affiliates ( Mansfeild Crips – Gang ), he persued the same girl Aubrey was dancing with which led to a verbal dispute. Aubrey Berry was?nt giving up that easy, but little did he know the Dolla and his Crip freinds wanted more than just a dance that night, they wanted a fight.
Aubrey Berry is liscensed to carry a hand gun but asumed the night would be silent so he left it in the car before entering the strip club. Dolla and about 5-7 affiliates rushed toward Mr. Berry and began to jump on him by himself. Aubrey covered his face as much as possible and fell to the ground. It wasnt long before the bouncers started clearing everyone out. Dolla and his freinds started taunting Aubrey Berry with Crip gang signs and blue rags.
The cops escorted Mr. Berry to his car so he can get to safety. The night ended. Early saturday afternoon, Aubrey Berry left the gym early to go meet with the club owner in LA so he can do a huge party. He went to PF Changs monday with his point of contact in LA to discuss this party, and then thats when it all went down hill. Dolla walks in with 3 of his crip gang members and started to eyeball Aubrey and taunted at him saying ? your on our turf now ?.
Dolla got on the phone and called for backup, and within 3 minutes the restaurant was filled with the Mansfeild Crip gang members ready to kill Aubrey Berry. Mr. Berry quickly rushed out of the restaurant scarred for his life as they followed close behind him. Dolla and 3 other gang members approuch Aubrey and said ?we are going to kill you? Aubrey tried to difusse the situation by explaining to them that he doesnt want any problems, they began to reach for there waist with one hand under there shirt, at this point Aubrey Berry was saying to himself ?they are going to kill me? Mr. Berry was able to remove his 9mm from his holster before the others and get a close shot at Dolla, unfortionatly he was to close to aim anywhere else but his head.
Aubrey felt his life was threatened in another city by gang members so he protected himself. I confirmed with other gang members that Dolla was going to kill Aubrey Berry so he can get a higher rank in the street gang notoriously known as the Mansfeild Crips. This was an act of self defense and the LAPD is going to withhold the evidence, they wont release the video tapes to Aubrey?s Lawyer nor will they investigate the gang violence. Aubrey Berry was in a state of panic mode so he fled to the airport scared for his life in a big city he knows nothing about, he tried to purchase a plane ticket andrun home to his mom but the police found a man whom fit the description of the shooter, and sure enough it was Aubrey Berry.
